Column 5 began in 1999 when founder Blake Crawford was unable to find any Christian Synth-Pop other than Joy Electric. Realizing that there was surely a niche created by this ground breaking visionary duo,  Blake decided to throw his proverbial hat into the ring and the concept of Column 5 was born. Blake is a huge Sci-Fi fan and thought it would be a novel approach to invent a fictional futuristic background story to be used as a launching pad (no pun intended) for the bands stories. After 18 months of writing lyrics and an additional six months building a recording studio in his home the search for band members began. Micah Baines was the first to    Column 5 promotional photo
join shortly followed by Darrin Davis and the ministry of Column 5 was formed. The trio spent the following year composing music for Blake's vision culminating in Faith On The Line which is the timely story of a Military Chaplain in the year 2079. Technically, Column 5 has a similar approach to the genre as JE working with more organic analog sounds as well as purely digital sounds. Their sound is more varied, sometimes bordering  on the ambient. Other songs rely more on an upbeat energy that may be more familiar to fans of the genre. Lyrically, the Column 5 approach is more overt relating to their faith in Christ. Column 5 is a bold and fiercely creative music ministry. This is simply a beautifully entertaining and all to rare example of the genre leaving the listener with a sense of wonder and hope.
