The Orange County-based Starflyer 59 started in 1996 originally signed with Tooth and Nail. With eleven releases under their belt, their distinctive sound and powerful songs define what ingenuity is about. Not much for bombast and pomp, Starflyer 59 absorbs itself in a dreamy, introspective ambience following their dreampop influences. Starflyer's Jason Martin leaves a one of a kind mark on all his work using his guitar as precise instrument to create music that has its own voice. Starflyer 59 finds itself in the precarious position of being either a Christian band struggling to make it on the indie scene, or a band perseived as not Christian enough for church-based audiences. For Martin, it’s not a question of one of the other. "All gifts are from God... I don’t want to sound like God gave me this incredible talent, but whatever talent it is, it’s from the Lord." SF 59 was recently honored by Entertainment Weekly Magazine in addition to HM magazine. Throughout their set at Cornerstone, Jason was hunched over his guitar, coaxing just the right amount of reverb from the instrument, creating a dizzying wash of feedback and tremolo to the amazement of the Starflyer faithful and new fans alike.
