For those less indoctrinated I'll briefly recount the rocky history of Randy Stonehill's relationship with Larry Norman. In the beginning, Larry helped launch Randy Stonehill's career by signing him to a record contract on his label. However, when the records were deleted from the label's catalogue Larry refused to sell back the rights or reissue the records. In the meantime, Larry had fallen in love with Randy's wife and pursued her as if she was single. Eventually, she divorced Randy and married Larry. What followed was a long period of bickering and backbiting with all the episodes very well documented by both the Mainstream and Christian press. Many of Larry's fans were openly disappointed with his behavior. Fast forward to Cornerstone 2000. Larry publicly apologized to Randy and to his fans for "hurting them" during his performance at the Acoustic Stage. Larry was beaming and smiling as the audience applauded for minutes. No doubt, the two former friends had made their peace with each other and were obviously relieved to have this nasty bit of history finally behind them. Rumours were abounding at Cornerstone 2001 that Larry would be joining Randy during his set at the Gallery Stage but with all that's transpired between them people were skeptical at best that it would really happen. What followed could only be described as a 'Cornerstone moment' as Larry ran out from backstage just barely in time to sing hamony vocals on the first chorus of Good News met with nearly deafening roars. Larry went on to accompany Randy throughout the remainder of the very inspired and highly improvised rendition of the song leaving the stage to a breathless audience.
